Athena Vafakou

Athena Vafakou is a speech therapist with a postgraduate degree in Speech and Language Sciences (MSc) from University College London.

he has worked as a paediatric speech therapist at the Chatzipatereo Rehabilitation and Child Support Foundation, while she is currently working at the “E.N.A.” rehabilitation centre as well as at the Neurodevelopmental Paediatric Rehabilitation Centre in Piraeus.

She has attended training seminars on developmental stuttering (Lidcombe program for early stuttering intervention, Palin PCI), on alternative and incremental communication (MAKATON, PODD), as well as a number of seminars concerning the management of linguistic difficulties.

During the course of her studies she carried out research on the linguistic development of children with autism, as well as on speech dysfunctions in pre-school children.
